Harry Whitney
Growing up in the Pacific Northwest surrounded by horses, I couldn't help but fall in love with them. My name is Annalise Rumpza and I am the person behind Tov Horsemanship. Working with horses is in my blood, my father is a farrier, trainer and saddle maker in WA state. When I was a child he was constantly rescuing horses and bring all sorts of projects home. I took my first paid training job when I was 18 years old, a worried little Kentucky Mountain Horse named Pendleton. Two years later, in 2018, I started dipping my toe into training for the public and teaching horsemanship. Around that time I enrolled in Northwest School of Animal Acupressure and Massage and became an equine massage therapist. This was a way to expand my knowledge of horses and help them to feel the best they can in their bodies. I am trained in Swedish massage, myofascial release, kinesiology taping and provide cold laser therapy. I have massaged horses in many varied disciplines, giving me the opportunity to meet and build relationships with a wide range of different types of horses. In 2020, Tov Equine Therapy (now Tov Horsemanship) was created. The word "Tov" is a Hebrew word which means "good for the senses" or "everything working as it should". I think it is the perfect word to describe what I strive to achieve with the horses. That is also my goal when working with owner's and their horses.
At an early age I started tagging along to clinics taught by Harry Whitney. Harry teaches the importance of drawing the horse's mind and through that achieving relaxation. When I was young I didn't understand the importance of what I was learning. But now, I am so thankful that his philosophy is my foundation of horsemanship. This is not a 1,2,3 step approach but a philosophy about understanding WHY a horse behaves the way they do. Awareness of the why leads to knowing how to help the horse succeed. What Harry teaches is the closest I have seen to speaking the natural language of the horse. I have spent quite a bit of time working under Harry's tutelage. Not only did I grow up going to his clinics, but I have completed working student stretches in 2015, 2020, 2023, and recently spent 10 weeks in 2024 learning from him. It has been such a privilege to learn so much from a great master of horsemanship.
In Fall of 2024, I made the move to North Alabama where I am so excited to continue helping people on their horsemanship journey.
